Pastor Braden was saved when he was in the Navy, through the efforts of a shipmate (Norm Slagle) and a retired Navy Gunner's Mate (Jack Edge). His Christian training began in the home of the Edges, and continued in good, Bible-teaching churches. In 1970, he was transferred to a submarine in Groton, Connecticut, where he met Anita.
Anita Palmquist was born and raised in Rhode Island, the third child of Phil and Doris Palmquist. Anita came to know the Savior on May 15th, 1960, and grew up in a Conservative Baptist church. The Lord brought the Bradens together when they each joined the church choir the same night. They were married the following April.
The Bradens spent six more years in the Navy, and then went to Lancaster Bible College, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Bible, Christian Education, and Christian Camping. After serving in a variety of ministries, he was called to serve as a civilian missionary to the military community in 1987. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in April 1988, at which time he became a member of IFCA International.
The Bradens served the military community at Baumholder (Germany), McConnell AFB (Kansas), Fort Riley (Kansas), and at USMC MobCom (Missouri) prior to moving to Columbus Junction. Pastor Braden received a Master's degree in Biblical Counseling from Calvary Theological Seminary in 2002 and directed the Counseling Department at Calvary Bible College until December 2005.
Pastor and Mrs. Braden have enjoyed 41 years as husband-and-wife, and love sharing biblical principles with other Christian couples to enhance their marriages. They are involved in the community and building a veterans ministry as well as leading Hope Bible Church.
